This Devalaya is situated on a giant rock on the bank of the
great Brahmaputra. This Devalaya was known as “Chandi Deoghar” during the reign
of Ahom monarch Pratap Sinha. The ruins of a temple Inside was renovated and
reconstructed by Swargadeo Gadadhar Singha.

The Shivalinga and the Chandipeeth
are situated in close proximity in the surface area Chandi Devalaya. A statue of the
embracing duo of Shiva and Goury (haragouri) is preserved in the Devalaya.
Moreover one four-armed Vishnu idol and a peacock statue is also available on the
site. In Chandi Devalaya the brillant portrayal of Maa Adyashakti is dearly visible
while Maa Chandi is said to be present in the Devalaya in her active presence.
Revered as a holy point this Devalaya witnesses yearly exuberant celebration of
basanti durga pooja and autamal durga pooja. From the seventh day Ascension of
Maa Durga to her eventual departure on the tenth day, the Durga Puja (“Prayer’)
(‘Prayer’) is celebrated here as per traditional rituals. Moreover the place also
witnesses celebration of Saraswati pooja, Lakshmi pooja, Kaali pooja and Jagadhatri
pooja. As per the mythology, both the breasts of Sati fell here on the spot leading the
place to be celebrated as place where the Goddess is actively present.
